Rainbow Week of Action
From May 11-17th 2024, Amnesty International is working with the Society of Queer Momentum in leading a National Rainbow Week of Action for a more free and equal Canada. This non-partisan advocacy initiative will bring together thousands of Canadians lifting up our voices for Rainbow Equality (www.rainbowequality.ca)
The Rainbow Week of Action is a direct response to the rise of anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate, misinformation, and regression in Canada. 2SLGBTQIA+ youth are particularly impacted given rhetoric, regression and misinformation is focused on schools, transgender young people’s healthcare, and comprehensive sexuality education. The rise in anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rhetoric and misinformation equally translate into higher risks of bullying, discrimination, poor mental health and family rejection for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth - particularly transgender young people.
The week features rallies in major cities across Canada, a digital letter-writing campaign and in person community gathering and letter writing events.

We invite you to join a rally, send your MP a letter, amplify the week of action on social media, or consider hosting a physical letter writing event in your community (we’ll help cover your costs).
