Focus : Canada - Open for Justice campaign

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Why Canada Needs an Extractive Sector Ombudsperson

People who defend their environment and human rights against the encroachment of Canadian mining companies lack protection and support from the authorities, and are often targeted with threats and violence. Those harmed by the international operations of Canadian mining, oil, and gas companies find they have nowhere to go for justice – not in their own countries, not through international mechanisms, and not in Canada.

The Federal budget failed to allocate funding for an extractives sector ombudsperson. We need to ask Minister Champagne and our  MPs : When will Canada be #open4justice?
